On Monday 16th of March, Arbitrage Real Estate successfully co-organized, sponsored and hosted a “Pricing risk in real estate” roundtable discussion, which focused on how climate change, energy efficiency and sustainability affect global real estate investing and property values. There was also reference to investable adaptation and mitigation technologies.
The panel consisted of Dr. Sven Bienert, Prof. Regensburg University, Daniel Chang, Director of Asset Management at Hines Europe LLC, John Papageorgiou, Senior Risk Consultant at AON Risk Solutions and Arnaud Henin, Director at Gommyr and cleantech investment expert. Ioannis Orfanos, Associate Partner of Arbitrage Real Estate and Director of Green Value Associates (UK), moderated the discussion.
A vibrant audience of more than 130 professionals from all disciplines of the local real estate sector had the opportunity to listen to a keynote presentation by Prof. Dr. Sven Bienert on his latest research results regarding the threat of extreme weather events and their impact on real estate and property values. His research highlighted why weather risks should be considered a key emerging driver to future investment strategies, explained the pay-off of green buildings and presented trends in sustainable property investments.
Following the research presentation, Ioannis kicked-off a panel discussion with an introductory presentation on the local real estate market, building stock and related policy landscape. He then moderated the panel discussion that stimulated debate on how extreme weather events and sustainability affect global investment decision-making, asset allocation techniques, insurance policies, green premiums and grey discounts.
