From 1st of January 2016 all RICS professionals undertaking and commissioning office measurements, will need to demonstrate compliance with RICS Property Measurement Professional Statement (1st edition, May 2015) and apply International Property Measurement Standards (IPMS): Office Buildings.
The aim of the aforementioned statement is to advise RICS members how to measure office buildings in accordance with IPMS, while providing a consistent and transparent global basis for the measurement of offices. IPMS: Office Buildings provides a basis to support the valuation of property, the analysis of market transactions on a global basis and the functional requirements of others, including owners, occupiers, facility managers, property managers, asset managers, agents, brokers, space measurement professionals, cost consultants and architects. IPMS: Office Buildings enables properties to be compared like-for-like using one global language on a widely understood basis.
RICS Property Measurement Professional Statement replaces the offices element of the Code of Measuring Practice (6th edition). Hence, it is advised that RICS members that conduct measurements for other property types including residential, industrial and retail to follow the guidelines set out in Code of Measuring Practice (6th edition).
